Independent "Micro" Data Center Unveiled At Data Center World 2018 In London

The largest, most visited and most influential gathering for data center experts – Data Center World 2018 – was held on March 21 and 22 in London. It was at this event that Fibernet's strategic partner – R&M presented its Telco Edge micro data center.

Telco Edge is a self-contained micro data center with built-in precision air conditioning system, built-in UPS system and integrated optical cabling. This micro data center features 99.9% soundproofing, features automated monitoring and documentation of network and IT components, and is a pre-fabricated piece of equipment delivered as a complete unit ready for use. This makes it the perfect piece of equipment for edge locations. As a result of all this, consumers can easily increase the capacity as needed and deal with the problems that arise with high latency, that is, they can provide their users with faster and uninterrupted access to the appropriate content.

"Central offices of telecommunications companies are the ideal location for Edge data centers," says Dr. Thomas Wellinger, Data Center Marketing Manager at R&M. "The goal of the latest model presented by R&M is to solve the challenges of latency, processing speed and data tracking that users of telecommunication services face, as a result of the increasingly pronounced growth of active connected devices. That's why we set ourselves a priority task - to simplify the implementation of the so-called edge data centers.

In addition to this model, R&M presented the Netscale Blade Cabling Manager (BCM) – a solution for optical components that is designed specifically for modular switches and enables a flexible, reliable and efficient cabling infrastructure throughout the data center. The integration of R&MinteliPhy technology for Automated Infrastructure Management (AIM) makes Netscale the first platform with ultra-high density and functionality for infrastructure management.

In addition, R&M introduced the new MPO-QR connector that follows the same concept of the LC-QR connector, and both can be locked and unlocked in an innovative way that allows more connectors and adapters to be placed closer together. In addition, the connector can be used from the back and therefore there is no need for the front to be in direct reach, unlike traditional MTP connectors. In this way, MPO-QR allows a density of up to 1,440 optical fibers (or 120 ports) per height unit.
